ENHYZINE

ENHYZINE, or ENHYZINE : inyeon, is an upcoming free digital fanzine focused on the kpop group ENHYPEN, and it will be a themed jukebox zine. This is a project to celebrate and explore the rich and diverse soundscape and lore from debut until now, and all the inspiration that is to be found within it.ENHYZINE's subtitle "inyeon" (or 인연) denotes the concept of ties between two people over the course of their lives, or one's connection with certain people or things. As such, the zine's theming will be based around a selection of Enhypen's music and lore, and contain works exploring primarily themes of bonds, isolation, fate, yearning, and desire, through a variety of visual and written media.Drawing inspiration from Jukebox Fic Challenges and events, the zine will have the contributors sign up for tracks from the selection offered, that they then use as a starting point for their submission once they've been accepted for the track. The inspiration can come from the title, the music, the lyrics, the music video, styling, etc. Be as vague and abstract or as direct and literal as you want. The project will be free and non-profit, with a digital release once the zine is completed. The digital release aims to include both a web optimised file and a print ready file for P4P / pay for production of physical copies available for interested parts. You can register your interest here.

Content Information

The zine aims to include a variety of content and will allow both RPF (Real Person Fiction) and nonfiction submissions. The zine will allow works based on all members of Enhypen, current and past. Your submission does not need to include all members — it can focus on just one person, a pair(ing), or a select ensemble. The zine will accept both general / platonic fanwork and shipping portrayals in terms of RPF works. There are no limitations to ships as long as they feature at least one Enhypen member. The zine will be open to — and hopes to see — submissions of all ratings, which includes NSFW / 18+ works. The zine will allow darker themes, including content that generally falls under the “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” label on AO3. This covers a variety of suggestive, sexual, horror, violent, or otherwise mature or adult themes. For this reason, applicants must be 18+ at the time of acceptance for this zine. If you are found to be breaking this rule, your work will be excluded from the zine.

FAQs

IF THE MUSIC AND LORE IS THE INSPIRATION, WHAT TYPES OF SETTINGS ARE ALLOWED?

You are not limited to creating canon adjacent works such as idolverse, MV lore verse, or Dark Moon verse — alternate universes inspired by the track you are creating for are allowed. If you are uncertain regarding whether a concept you’re envisioning being a fit for the zine or not, not to worry. Any such concerns will be smoothed over during the pitch period, where participants are required to share their ideas with the mods. This way, your pitch can be approved before you begin creating your work(s).This is to ensure that the project has a cohesive vision and creative direction, even if the final zine will have some sprawl as it is pieced together by contributions from a group of people.

WHAT TYPE OF WORKS CAN I CREATE?

The span of media we would accept into the zine includes:- Fanart, page art or spread
- Comics
- Original photography (of Enhypen, or on theme)
- Graphics / edits, single page or spread
- Collages
- Mixed media
- “Web weaving”
- Fanfiction, shortform
- Fanfiction, oneshot
- Fanfiction, non-narrative (diegetic works; letters, emails, transcripts, interviews, diaries, journal entries, medical reports)
- Poetry- Nonfiction (essays, analysis, reviews, articles, other/miscalleanous)

CAN I CREATE MORE THAN ONE SUBMISSION?

Yes! If you complete and submit your work before Check-in #2 begins, and let the mods know that you wish to create another submission for the zine, you will be given a new link to the application form and restart the contributor application process.

HOW WILL THE JUKEBOX ELEMENT OF THIS PROJECT WORK?

The project is looking for a number of contributors per track, and track selection will be on a first come, first serve basis. Tracks without any applicants may be cut.Once applications close, mods will sort through the applications and ensure that all participants are paired up with a track while taking into consideration the number of contributors per track. Because of how the track selection works, while participants ideally will receive their first or second choice there may be situations where they will be contacted if their options have been filled.Following the decision period, the mods will send out approvals containing the track you will be using as inspiration for your submission, which marks the start of the pitch period and submission. More details on this will come with your approval for the project, but contributors will be required to submit 1-3 pitches for the work they are looking to create for mod approval before they begin creating.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A SUBMISSION THAT WOULD BE MULTIPLE PARTS?

If you have an idea for a submission that would span several tracks and need several installments to do so, don’t hesitate to include this as one of your possible pitches. You can do this either as you apply as a contributor, or as part of your pitch(es) during the pitch period. (You would be limited to create shortform fanfiction or nonfiction, poetry, or single pages of visual media for your respective track.)
Multiple part submissions would not have to cover ALL tracks in the project, but mods retain the right to balance which tracks are available for multipart submissions. List the tracks you want for your submission in order of preference — the goal will be for you to secure at least your first choice track, but any additional tracks beyond that will depend on the number of contributors already assigned to a track and what type of submissions they're creating.
All approvals will be on a case-by-case basis.Remember that you will be expected to create your submission at the same pace and meet the same deadlines as all other contributors in the project.

CREATOR GUIDELINES & expectations

What does this mean for me?

By participating in the zine as a contributor you are to create a submission of visual / written media based on a track from Enhypen’s discography, following the timeline and deadlines for the project.Your submission must be a new original work of your own creation that has not been published elsewhere before the completion of the zine. This also means no sharing your WIPs publicly as snippets or previews.Contributors are free to post their full works to their own handles once the zine has been released.By participating in the zine, contributors give the organisers permission to publish the work in the zine.No amount of generative AI is allowed in the process of your submission. If you are found to have used generative AI, your work will be excluded from the zine and you will be banned from participating in any future projects the organisers are involved in.Feel free to be creative! If you have an idea you'd like to create but are unsure of would fit within the scope presented here but that you think is still within the theme, you are welcome to run it by the mods. We are open to a diverse assortment of visual / written / mixed media contributions, and have not listed each and every variation that could be included.

What am I responsible for?

As a contributor you will be responsible to create a submission following format guidelines seen in this section and the CONTENT INFORMATION section within the timeline for the project.

NARRATIVE FANFICTION
Shortform fanfiction, drabbles and ficlets
Required wordcount: 100-999 words

Fanfiction, standalone oneshots

NON-NARRATIVE FANFICTION
Epistolary / “in universe” works
Required wordcount: 100-9999 words

POETRY
Poems will not have a hard minimum or maximum wordcount requirement, but we ask you to use your discretion.

NON-FICTION

Required wordcount: 300-3000 words

VISUAL MEDIA

As previously mentioned, different forms of visual media submissions include: fanart, comics, original photography (of Enhypen, or on theme), graphics / edits, collages, mixed media, and “web weaving”. Any and all of these submissions can take up a single page, or a spread. At the moment, there is no minimum or maximum size guide, as long as it can be either:
   - scaled up/down to fit single page/spread proportions, or
   - be placed fully within the constraints of a single page/across a spread, with blank space leftover (eg, a graphic that takes up half the page and is not intended to be scaled to fit the page).
An artist submitting a piece can opt in as to whether they want their piece to take up: part of a page; an entire single page; or an entire spread. If an artist chooses the first option, they may be reached out to later on in the zine production phase to ensure whether they are acquiescent to their piece sharing space on the same page with another participant’s submission, and/or if they are happy with their piece’s placement on the page. The size and proportions of a single page are 2480px by 2480px, whereas the size and proportions of a spread will be 4961px by 2480px. Note that the zine is currently expected to be in a square page format, so portrait or landscape orientation does not apply across a single page submission.Digital and traditional work both are accepted, though scans of traditional work are preferred to be submitted at a high quality resolution of 300dpi or more, if possible. Digital work is also accepted at resolutions of 300dpi or more.
